CARF accreditation consulting
CARF accreditation consultants for behavioral health.
We help substance use, mental health and opioid treatment programs earn CARF accreditation and keep it: the right program areas, every document the standards call for, a team that has rehearsed the survey, and support through survey week and after.
What you get
Everything the standards ask to see.
CARF surveyors look for two things: written policies, plans and records that conform to the standards, and evidence that your staff actually follow them. We build both, so the documents and the practice match.
Each manual is tied to a survey year that runs July 1 to June 30, so we prepare from the edition that matches your survey date, including the 2026 additions on artificial intelligence, sobering centers and integrated primary care.

How we work
From first questionnaire to Three-Year Accreditation.
CARF publishes its process in plain terms. We run each step with you, and add the preparation that decides how the survey goes.
Scope
Choose the right standards manual and program areas, from outpatient and intensive outpatient to residential, withdrawal management and opioid treatment.
Assess
A baseline gap analysis against the standards that apply to your programs, population and setting.
Build
Policies, plans, forms and handbooks written with your team and to your actual operations.
Rehearse
A mock survey with record review, staff and leadership interviews and observation, then a ranked plan to close the gaps.
Survey
Application, scheduling and survey-week support, then your Quality Improvement Plan within CARF’s 90-day window.
Timing: CARF suggests starting your self-evaluation about 12 months before your survey and submitting the application at least three months before your survey window. Many first-time providers plan nine to twelve months from kickoff to decision.

Book a free consultationHow long does CARF accreditation take?
CARF suggests beginning your self-evaluation about a year before your survey. The survey application is due at least three months before your preferred two-month survey window (CARF suggests about six), and the decision and written report typically arrive six to eight weeks after the survey. Most first-time providers plan nine to twelve months from kickoff to decision.
How much does CARF accreditation cost?
CARF does not publish a price list for behavioral health accreditation. Its survey fee depends on the number of surveyors and survey days. Budget separately for the standards manual, staff time and any consulting support. We quote our work after a free consultation, based on your program areas, number of locations and how much is already in place.
Which programs can CARF accredit?
CARF’s Behavioral Health manual covers withdrawal management, outpatient, intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization, residential and inpatient treatment, crisis programs, case management and more. Opioid treatment programs use CARF’s separate OTP manual, and CARF is one of the SAMHSA-approved accreditors for OTP certification. See our CARF accreditation guide for the full list.
We have not opened yet. Can we still get accredited?
Yes. CARF offers an Inaugural One-Year Accreditation for new organizations before they begin serving people, followed by a full survey about six months after services start. Your state license usually has to come first, so we plan both tracks together. See how to open a treatment center.
Should we choose CARF or The Joint Commission?
Both accredit behavioral health and substance use programs, and both are SAMHSA-approved for opioid treatment programs. The right choice depends on what your state recognizes, what your payers expect and the survey style that suits your team. Our CARF vs. Joint Commission guide walks through it, and we support both.
What happens after we are accredited?
CARF expects conformance all the time, not only in survey years: a Quality Improvement Plan within 90 days of the decision and an Annual Conformance to Quality Report every year. Our continuing compliance support keeps that work on schedule.
Do you work outside Florida?
Yes. We are based in Fort Lauderdale and have supported behavioral health providers nationwide since 2011, on site and remotely.
